Bumped fire sprinkler floods Subway

A busted fire sprinkler flooded the Subway on the first floor of Smith Memorial Student Union at around 5 p.m. this afternoon, sounding the building’s fire alarm for a few minutes.
About 2,000 gallons of water flooded out into Subway and the main lobby of Smith in front of the information desk, according to members of the clean-up crew. The sandwich store shut down for business while members of The Crew vacuumed and mopped up the water.
The Subway shop might re-open for the last few hours of the night if all of the water is mopped up.
This is the second fire sprinkler to cause a flood at PSU in the last week. The Stott Center main gym was flooded last week when a student threw a softball and hit a sprinkler, causing costly water damage to the wood basketball court.
The fire sprinkler began spewing water when Subway employees tried to move the store’s refrigerator and bumped the sprinkler, according to the clean-up crew.
